LODl, Calif. - Over 1500 spectators and
400 r iders were on hand for the recent
Lodi Cycle Bowl Benefit Scrambles and what a show It wasl Sports announcer
Kent Pierce, augmented by the cameras
of KCRA-TV, cover ed the eventfor television pr es entation, from the mass ive
r ider parade through 15 classes of exciting events.
Fig hting for huge trophies (some 4-1/2
fee t tallt), all divisions provided an
ac tio n- plus program that was spiced
with numerous r es tarts - five of them in
the 650cc Novice heat race alone - and a
total of 89 over-eager r iders fell off
dur ing the day's ac tivi ties l Miraculously,
no injuries res ulted .
Despite the hassles with pr eliminary
events, the Mains ran off sm oothly. Most
Impr es sive Novice was Dennis Huff, son
of Expert Ray Huff; and a fine up-andcoming competitor In his own r ight . Bob
Grossi led the 500 Expert from start to
finish, with the eld er Huff waiting for a
mis take that never came.
In the 650Cc Expert division, John
Fraszer eme rged victorious, but not
without a tough tussle with Terry Sage,
who' s really r iding lik e a long-time pro
these days.

Wheel1e contes t and other diversions
added to the overall fun-type day, and
lovely Miss Lodi was there, awarding
trophies to the lucky top finishers .
Naturally, an event of this magnitude
needs plenty of help to run, and members from the Hayward M.C., Stockton
Scramblers, Polka Dots, Modesto M.C.
