Although Mammoth club members had no real experience in laying out a motocross track, it turned out io be one at the best In the country (In this reporter-s opinion). Snow-patched H1gb Sierra countryside greeted the early risers to this two -day event. A late snow kept the ground damp and trackable whi l e adding to the tantastic beauty olthe countryside. Action got underway with the tirst moto tor the 0- 100cc class taking ott at approxi mately 12:00 noon . Bultacomounte d Bob Thure and Hodaka jockey Kevin Hill reached the tirst turn at the top ol the hill ahead at the pack. Bill Pettigrew and a Steen Hodaka teamed lIP to catch the tront runner and take the number one spot in the first maio. The second and third motos were about the same with Pettigrew taking both and Thure copping a second. The 250cc Experts included two southBishop, California Pack Sialion owner Ba be land greats In moto-cross . Preston Petty Jay Is back and In Ireal form. Babe was #l and Ron Nelson, and the battle that deIn the soutftland deserl back In 1957-58.
