A good natured changeover of jobs took place, and once everyone got through seeing wha t was what, and who was who , they all got down to !he business of running the first race, the l OOcc Novic es . First to leave th e line was Ronnie Gonnella, who held his place for the first lap till Jerry Tyler slid his way pas t and Into first spot . The two of the m l ef t the r es t In the dust as th ey both fought It out to the finish line, but Jerry stayed In first with Ronnil! a fast- mov ing second. Roberts Routs 100's Th e l OOcc A mate ur/Expert class bel onged to the Experts. Kenny Roberts made his big moves on !he straightaways, whlle Robert Knudsen did his best working In the cor ner s . Kenny had the lead, and kept it down to !he wire wi th Rober t nudging abead only once. John Dotson rolled across the line for a first In th e Amateur class. Pairlck McKee took !he lead In the 200cc Novice class, but no one was willI ng to let him have It. WI!h the lead that he did hold, !W was able to stay an Inch or two ahead of everyone else In the MaIn. Greg Moore took over the job of pressIng Patrick till Greg dropped It In the fourth lap. From there on Pat made It clear he was going to have first place. ,,.... '. think I can, I think ' .can_." Two approaches to one problem - how to bandle a Uptleflohandw. Sisemore Sizzles The order of -25 0NovIce was Doug Stsemore first and Jim Cranshaw second, as Jim Nichols and Mike Waltkamp fought for 1h1rd. Then Cranshaw decided he didn't like the order and moved himself Into first. The newjllacementlasted till !he fourth lap when Doug made the added change by puWng himself In the lead for a win. \ The 250cc Amateur/Expert class turned Into a spoWgbt for Ray Hutf, who burned uP !he track to give everyone there a living example of the word fast. In the 350 Novice event Rick Graves walked away on his BSA with Joe Brazil leaping at his first spot, Joe wasn't quite quick enough and took second with . Rick leading to !he flag. Bud Smith did !he same on his Triumph In !he 500cc Novice go as he kept turning it on and kept movlug away. Stephen Young took up the job on his CZ of giving Bud a run for first, but Stephen wasn't able to make any changes In the order they held. <, Ray Huff (6) gobbled up hi s compeUtla-n hi bath the 250cc and Open classes, deleatln e all comers. The 500 Amate urs weren' t nearly so orderly. Ken Boy er hel d his fir st place as well as any first place winner should, but a change cam e In the next to the last lap, Bill Evans, who had been Ken'sonly competition, f ell victim to Jim Richardson, who turned on his machine at the last moment to roll up on first place Boyer. Jim' s mov e was too late though, and he took a second behind an unruffled Ken. Second WiD For Huff The 500 Expert- G Amateur/Expert 50 saw Ray Hutf take his second victory for the day. F irst place looked like a tight place to be wi th Don Stover, F r ed Sumral, and Hutf all holding It - at times all three were holding It · at once - In the first lap . In !he second lap Sumral rode his Triumph to fi rst place, but th en tha t , was only !he second lap, In !he Ih1rd Huff showed how he earned his black number by rolling Into first and away from everyone else, for a first place win.
