THE HOT HARD
GREENHORN ENDURO
Story and Ph oto s by John Shedd
A description of the Pasadena
22nd annual Greenhorn
Enduro would have to be hot and
hard. Last year as riders prepared to leave from the start at
Gorman, it was so cold dlat there
was ice on the machines, but this
year it was quite the opposite.
M.e.' s
The start was moved back to Pearblossom In the southern part of Antelope
Valley, canr, and as riders pulled outln
groups of four , af ter the s a .m . key ti me,
It was already T- shirt weather.
Morntng shadows became shorter an d
thl! desert sun hotter as the last of the
452 riders lert Pearblossom. As the last
riders were leaving the start, the low
number plates were leaving the flrstgas
check 29 mUes north at HI Vista. From
HI Vista, the markers led Into Ker n
County and then east to Highway 395 and
parallel to It to the gas check at Four
Corners. After a 15- mlnute br ea ther,
they were orr again, heading east across
the desert passed Boron and Callfor nla
City to the noon chec k a t -Cinco.
A Roogh Go
Oh well, only 392 miles to 10 _ yeh _ only 392 miles.
After noon check, the trall out of Clnco
was the same as the one used last year •
The steep, Impossib le downhllllnto Jawbone Canyon was the same, and Bob
Cruising down a lire-road with feet up and a tra nsi stor ra dio slap ped to his ear (23c). T his
. rider doesn' t seem to be concerned about much of anything.
