THE HOT HARD GREENHORN ENDURO Story and Ph oto s by John Shedd A description of the Pasadena 22nd annual Greenhorn Enduro would have to be hot and hard. Last year as riders prepared to leave from the start at Gorman, it was so cold dlat there was ice on the machines, but this year it was quite the opposite. M.e.' s The start was moved back to Pearblossom In the southern part of Antelope Valley, canr, and as riders pulled outln groups of four , af ter the s a .m . key ti me, It was already T- shirt weather. Morntng shadows became shorter an d thl! desert sun hotter as the last of the 452 riders lert Pearblossom. As the last riders were leaving the start, the low number plates were leaving the flrstgas check 29 mUes north at HI Vista. From HI Vista, the markers led Into Ker n County and then east to Highway 395 and parallel to It to the gas check at Four Corners. After a 15- mlnute br ea ther, they were orr again, heading east across the desert passed Boron and Callfor nla City to the noon chec k a t -Cinco. A Roogh Go Oh well, only 392 miles to 10 _ yeh _ only 392 miles. After noon check, the trall out of Clnco was the same as the one used last year • The steep, Impossib le downhllllnto Jawbone Canyon was the same, and Bob Cruising down a lire-road with feet up and a tra nsi stor ra dio slap ped to his ear (23c). T his . rider doesn' t seem to be concerned about much of anything.
