CI) ~ EIGHTEEN RRC CLUBS MEET :c:; By Robert O. Fee [oJ ::J U ;:... U Eighteen clubs answered the 8:30p.m. roll call a t the May 8 meeti ng of the Southern Callfornia Road Rider s Cornmttee. Mel Heininger , Executive Coordinato r of the City of Hope, highlight ed the meeting when he accept e d a check for $2,545.91 , pr oceeds of the 8th Annual Spr ing Tour. Mel comp llmented the body on the cooperation and esplr lt de corps that was evi dent at this year's 29 Palms Rally. He refused to discuss or accept apologies for the low-attendance t1gure, pointing out that the Initial rally in 1960 netted oniy $350. Other r epresentatives of the RRC wer en' t so kind and several sharp cr iticis ms were leveled. They ranged fr om lack of planned activities on saturday nigh t to scheduling next year's rally so as to avo id the Cus to m Motor cycle Show. One s uggestion to be discuss ed further Is the possibility of movin g the Spring Tour to another location. Some old-timers were disappointed in the advertising brochure. It followed the general composition of the Yuma Prison Run advertising which the Centaurs representative has admitted as being one of the year's most unattractive fiyer. A letter from Ernest Schneider of the Lancers' M.C. roasted some of the midnight activities of the few outlaws who were drunk and became quite belligerent in manner an d offensive In language when asked to quiet down so the children u.s. Dis trict 37 came in for very sharp cr1Uclsm over their extended use of Operation ' Motorcycie Blood Bank and refusal to replace the blood. Committee Chairman , Ken Jones, stated that DIstrict 37 r iders had withdrawn 100 pints of blood and had replaced a total of 5 pints. Jones also said that he had at- · tended the District meetings, practically begged the clubs to get their members out, and even set up special donation dates for the competition r iders. Most of the resulting discussion centered around the feasibility of excluding or li miting Distri ct 37 riders' withdrawals fr om the bank. The matter was tabled an d the r epr esentatives asked to bring back concr e te s uggestions a t the June mee ting . Old Business The SUver Eagles M.C. pres ented the Ace of Clubs with a beauUfuliropby for selling the mos t ti ckets for the HarleyOlvidson M-65 given away at the Spr ing Tour . Mary Stidd, Treasurer of the Ace of Cl ubs, personally ac counted for 96 of the tickets sold. RRC Treasurer Sherman Ames indicate d that the Rainbows M.C. an d the SUver Eag es themselves were the runners-up In ti cket sales. The M-65 was dona ted by the Southern California Harley- Olvidso n Deaier s AsSOCian on, Bill Adam s and Frank Heac ox wer/! highly praised by the RRC for the amount of cooperation they have given the group. Flnanc1a1 help for Bill's AMA Convention expenses was discussed with the posslb1llty of 3.l! off-ca1endar run being promoted as the RRC Treasury was in no shape to support any kind of donation. Several weeks ago a few r iders who run small machinery in the various Southern Callfornia road races conducted a survey In regard to the number of 50 and 100cc road race bikes that have not been running at loca1 events for some time. n was amazing the number of good machines that have stopped showi ng up at these events, so at this time an association was formed, called the Feather weight Racing As socia ti on. for 50 to l00cc bikes. The t1r st r egular meeting of the new association was held May 22 at Cr own Cycle in Rosemead, Cal1t ., thanks to manager Steve Monohan .A fair amount of small bike r iders were prese nt an d discussion was held on plans for the future. Since one of the main reasons for the group Is to build up the small bike class, the new association has been granted a booth In the coming Long Beach Hobby Show to be held in the Long Beach Auditorium on June 13, 14, 15 and 16 from 12 noon' to 9 p .m, daily. This IS the t1r st time that motor cycles will be Incl uded in the Hobby Show, the Idea being to le t so me of the non- race r s an d people who have never seen a s mall GP machine have a good long look. Also, some new road race tans and maybe a few new r iders could be developed to help buUd up the classes. The Fea therwei ght Racing Assn. has applied for a sanction or sponsorship from the ACA, and other assoctatlons wU1 be contacted in the future. Plans are underway for a 50 and l00cc U.S. Championship event for 1968.
