I'm the Gingerbread Man.
- From an old nursery r hyme)
Johnn y Bryant, the Gingerbread Man,
showed them all how I t' s done In the
Lightwei ght Final for under - 200cc bikes
as , lap after lap, he led all of the bigger
machinery around the course wi th his
sharp little l00cc Yamaha. True, Mike
Kidd (175cc Bultaco) led him at the end
at lap number two, but then Mike dusted
his leathers, and little Johnny kept comjog around and around, rutting through
the trees like an elf, his engine singing
a merry tune, until on the tenth and last
lap the little motorcycle just did not
come around again. Restarting in ninth
place after his fall , Mike Kidd fintshed
second behind Bob Hammill (l75cc
Brldgestone) and ahead of David Watkins
(175cc Bultaco). This Is the same finishIng order as the Lightweight Grand Final
at Austin, two weeks previous.
It looked as though Rusty Bradley
would repeat his earlier win in the com bined 25Occ!Open F in a I, but, after
stretching out a tremendous lead during
the first seven laps, the Triumph stopped
out on the course, and sim ultaneously
Mike Cone (250cc Yamaha) passed Ronald Muir ( 350cc Duca ti) to take the lead.
Ron made a last, desperate attempt to
steal the show from Mike i n the f inal
lap, and he even led the Yamaha I nto the
last turn, but It was evi dent that Mik e
was overtaking him In the bend, and he
dropped the Ducati trying to hold off the
attack. Rober t Lee (50 0cc Triumph) was
second followed by Canfi el d (Suzuki) .
Si nce L ee and Canfield were Experts,
Jimmy F oster ( Yamaha) took the second
place Sportsman Trophy.
