F 600 FE DS Story by Sha ron Cfaytc n A NCIlnl 600 Ilot..cydes ridlrs received a co orderl,. Wind, sand and 600 motorcycle riders made a n appearance at the Frontier Day and Buffalo Feed a t Calico Ghost Town, Calif. ThIs was the 9th annual r un and a recor d crowd was In a tt endance . For the ltrst time all three sponsortng dealers, Dave Mason of Pasadena, Ed Kretz of Monterey Park, and Skip Fordyce of Riverside, sold all of their tickets . Calico Ghost town where many Sunday drivers go with their families was even more interesting as the 600 riders wandered through the town. The line at 12:00 o'clock was most Impressive and I heard many families asking what was going on and the people of Calico pai d the highest compliment to a large gr oup. The attitude was not one of disgust, but of amazement tha t so many riders were so well mannered along with the i r children and family pets . The town of Calico presented $40 In value for 10 riders to be lIIe to-. of Calco lor belne so given tickets to all rides and tours at the Ghos t Town and welcomed us back next year . If you have neve r been to Calico and even If you have, this tour Is a good Sunday drive and very entertaining for the family. Where else can you tour fas cinating mines and feel llke you are In the old west as well as have a lunch on an excellent menu . Buffal o meat tas ti ng a little like veal, salad an d baked beans topped off with strawberry pie. Even though thi s year the wind was blowIng and sand was flyi ng it added to the flavor of the food. If the sponsoring dealers had spent their money In advertising to help change our publlc image , 1 don' t think the y could have done as much good as was done by 600 dedica ted motorcycle r iders and their families.
