The third l oop was rather uneventful with no noticeable changes i n the top 5 r i ders. The fourth l oop found Ronni e first and Husky- mounted Ji m Ni chol son closing the gap In second place. Com ing into the pit area from the wide open f our th gear flats Nichol son hit so me bad whoop-de-doos and did a fantastic endo going between a telephone pole and Its guide wire but miraculously em erged unhurt. Nel son then proceeded to drop his chaI n In the twisty r ide through the pits and also drop his chan ces fo r th e win. (Ron and Montesa had already won the rac e at Ponderosa tha t morning and had beat It over to compete at Deadman's Point) . John Bail ey then managed to pull his Bultaco past Doyle Field's Tri umph to take home the number one spot with Doyle snatching second and Mo ntesamounted T im Smith copping third. Dennis Rempel pulled off a good, smooth ride to catch f ourth place brass aboard a Husky. The Dese rt Challenger s M.C. wor k ed a good event and kep t all things In good order. The refreshment area I s a great setup after a hot thirsty r ide. Good r un.
