Nixon's Due In Town Moving over to Ascot next weekend for the double- header and fans can look for Gary Ni xon. the new National Champ, to be on hand for both the half- mile on F r i day night and the TT on sa tur day night. Gary bas a lot of catching up to do in the point race if he is going to bang onto that Number One In '68. Cal Rayborn i s the poi nt lead with close to 120, Nixon bas twenty- seven. Jimmy Odom and Gene Romer o are also off to a good start i n the point race that w ~ wi ll r un all the way through next Octo ber . Word Is that Ascot will have a .. Local H-D tuner Jerry Branch was the official mechanic for Bart Mar kel down at Daytona but as yet Jerry bas not signed to do the duty for any of the many H- D riders for Ascot this year . Here Come The Two-Strokes A first f or As cot next F ri day night wi ll be the new Suzuki 500cc two- stroke twin. Th ere will be more than one and if th ey go as well on dirt as th ey did their fir s t time on pav em ent at Daytona then Suzuki may not oni y be kingpin in the Novice class . but the Expert class as well. Yam aha will field a Novice team for the first time in two years with Keith Mashburn. Don Dudek and F reddy Ed wards. They will r i de the 250 twins. not the new 15-inch singles that have been burning up the TT track. Look for the yearly battle at A scot on the half-mile to be a red -hot one betwe en BSA and H- D. Triumph still controls the TT track. BSA will not , r epeat , will not. have things all the ir own way on the oval this year as they have in the past m any , many season s. Tri umphs may even surpri se on the half- mile, also. Next week wi ll devote the col umn to who will be riding what on th e Ascot half this year - all 33 weeks of the seas on.
