ARMCHAIR MOTORCYCLE TOUR MAR. 30 IN GLENDALE, Ted Van Der Kolle, the traveling Dutchman who hosts three motorcycle tours of Europe every year, will show movies of the most recent trip and the public is invited. The time is 8 p.m, and the place is 400 N. Ce ntral Ave., Glendale, Calif. Ted will tell all about the coming Isle of Man Tour this year, scheduled to take In the fmous Tourist Trophy grand prix races. Ted' s tours come free with the pur chase of a motor cycle, which you pic k up at the factory In Europe. It Is sullable for both the professional or occ.aslonal competitor. _L -P K STOSS FAST MOTO-CROSS SO O E By Larry Brooks The moto - cr oss presented by the Lo mpoc SIo-Pokes at the Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway started on a flat grassy area and covered varied terrain including sandy hills, wet green flatlands , steep downhllls, 180- degree t urn s around trees, third gear stralghtaways and a typical mudhole. When starter Fred Lindemann began the events on Sunday , February 25, over sixty riders were on hand to compe te in three classes around the tight, rough two- mile course. The tremendous success of the races was partUy attributed to the beautiful summer-like day, but the action was even more stimulating. Second place went to Tom Davis r idi ng a Sachs, followed by Bob Miller (Hodaka) and Joe Brown (Yamaha). So Was Brown The lightweight class , co ns isting of bikes 125cc to 250cc was won by Joe Brown riding a C Z. Joe, who had two first and a second In the three motos, is another r ider people like to watch - he rides hard with a style all his own. Brown was followed by Rex Lewis on a Greeves, George Etheridge (Husqvarna) and Bill Harris. Balley had two fir s t and a third to win the big bike class. George Etheridge placed second on his Husky ; Stu Peters (Malco) third, and Tom Stockstill (Honda) fourth. Bailey I mpressi ve Slo-Pokes Hustle Gary Balley, who came up from Long Beach, r ode awa y with a first place in both the small and big bike classes, riding a Hodaka and a 360 Gr eeves, respectively. He mi ght have made It three for the day had he not developed engine trouble with Is 250 Greeves . Gary really moved through the paces and Impr es s ed the hundreds of spectators with his wheelles and stand-Up riding style . He won the small bike class by taIdng two first and a second in three motos . Many fa vorable comments were heard from the riders about the challenging course and the speed an d or ga ni za tio n with which the races wer e run . The y started promptly at 12:3 0 p .rn , an d were r un like cl ockwork, with th e final r esults pos te d an d trophies a war ded by 5 p.m , The club plans to hold another moto- cross at the Santa MarlaSpeed way later in M arch, Watch Cycle News for the announcement.
