One of th e wom en ridi ng her own motorcycle, Er ma Parker of Everett, was fifth in the drawing of pok er hands on the run. In fourth place was a young fellow f rom Bellevue, F. Kemper Freeman Jr. Edna Rice had a laugh on her husba nd Bob by winning the thi r d place trophy over the objections of Bob who said It was HIS hand that won. He was finally all owed to hold the trophy until it was time to go home and then Edna took possession again. One of the well-known riders from Tacoma, Bob LaPointe, made it his sprtng opening ride and was well pleased. He took home to his wite and fam ily a very nice trophy for second place. "The Old Man" of the eas t side of Lake Washington, Art Clark (Red mo nd Pioneers) made it two In a r ow fo r the year by coming in first . He also won the washington sser s Spring Enduro not too l ong ago. Motorcycle cl ubs represented included Tacoma Yellow Jackets , Hoqui am Ramblers, Th underbirds of Everett, Redmond Pioneers, and Jolly Roger s of Seattle . Largest Cl ub attendance trophy went to the T acoma Yellow Jackets. Th e Hard L uck award was shared by two men, Gene Binford from Redmond, and Kenny Peterson. Gene had a fiat tire right at the end of the run, and Kenny, from Aberdeen, had a pl ugged gas line and was unabl e to finish before cutoff time. With the weather being so wet and cold, not to mention the wind, it was a well attended event and hopes are for better weather for all runs in the future. - Good weather and good attendance go hand in hand, and sometimes even sweet charity l oses out to the whims of nature. ~ 3365 C entury ' mve., Lynwood· l\' E 8-1864 By Jo e Maw A one of a kind took place Sunday , February 25 when the women of the Washington ss ers Motorcycle Cl ub of Seattle put on the Etghth Ann ual Heart F und Ride. The wome n took the reins and showed they could put on events as well as ride them. The ride was a nice slow mean der through the ci ty of Seattl e, Wash. and covered a distan ce of ttttyeight miles. A total of fifty - one people participated for this worthwhile cause. Trophies f or the r un were donated by some of the shops and clubs from the Seattle area and all proceeds wer e sent to th e Heart Fund for use i n research. in keeping with the heart them e, Valentine season and all, boxes of candy were won by Jack and Mary Ann Shumaker of Bellevue. Th e prizes went to th e couple married the l ongest and the Shumakers l et It be known that they had been happy for over thi r ty years . Mary Ann recei ved a second box of calories for being the oldest woman riding her own motorcycle.
