The Coda Resta urant In Buena Park,
. Calif. was the s cene thls year for the
....annual Dis trict 3i Trophy Pr esen tation,
which was shared by the Des er t M.C.
After the huge r oom was really fllled
by the crowd, Spor ts Commi ttee Pr esl dent Ron Sloan started the presentation
by awarding the tro phie s for the District
3i Grand Prix held last year at Bay
Mare .
Next cam e the high point of the evening, the awarding of the perpetual trophies. Fi rs to r eceive theirs were the
Sidehack champions, Mike Parti and Jim
Moffit. Jac k Morgan took home the trall
bike trophy for the thlrd year straight.
Ji m Hunter, whose name ha s appea r ed
on the heavywei ght scrambles tr ophy
mor e times than anyone else's, presen ted that trophy to the new owner ,
John Rice . Kirk McDowell won the lightweight trophy In the same division.
High-po int man In the heavyweight
desert division, Steve Hurd, received
his trophy with Bob Belt being the
lightweight champion .
A r ela tivel y new club, the Lightweights
M.C. were the high polnt ligh twelghtclub
and the Checker s the heavyweight.
Plans had been to show the movie run
on " Wide Wor ld of Spor ts" of the Victors
Champions hip Har e and Hound, but after
everyone was seated, lights turned off
and all expec tant, the pro jector blew so
the rest of the evening was .spent In
socializing. And a good ti me was had
by all!

cycles on public roads has made them a
factor in traffic safety prog rams for the

The MS&ATA' s Safety Advisor y Committee, composed of som e of the nation's
top traffi c safety exper ts , Issued an
appeal to the states for uniformity of
driver licensing procedures and safety
equipment for motorcycles. The trade
association has iss u e d a " pos ition
paper" urging all slates to Immediately
adopt a separate license for two-wheelers, with an appropriate lic ense tes ting
system . The Industry group proposed
adoption of a license-testing method devel oped by the American Ass oclation of
Motor Vehicle Admlnls trator s . Many
s tates started out 1968 with such a
r egulation for the fir st time.
Other safet y measures advocated by
the MS&ATA include periodic vehicle
Inspections, legislation which would pr ohibit modlflcation of original equipment
exhaus t sys tem s , li mitation of the use of
highways and turnpikes to motorcycles
and scoo ters capable of attai ning a speed
of 60 mUes -p er - hour , and es tabli shment
of one minimum age r equirement for
both motor cycles and automobil es.
