With the continuaUon of th e three- way feud bet ween defending point cha mpion Myron Carter and challengers Don Mat thews and A l Finan, the Open Exper t class attracted the gr eate st I nterest. Carter on his seasoned T r i umph di splayed his usual s killful riding but still seem s to lack the horses to stay out in f ront on the straights and was again shaded by vet eran rider Don Matthews on Mike Garrett' s beautifully tuned BSA Gold star . A l Finan, astride Ear l Rol off ' s new T r i um ph , kept Carier and Matthews from g e t ti n g careless by pressing the m f or the di stanc e i n all three motos, nalllng down third spo t i n the standings . Wayne Hosaka , demons trating specta cular r i di ng style over the j ump and through the power sweep, captured the 250c c Expe rt class on his Bultaco P urSang, having a little troubl e in the sec ond moto when Chr is Han sen on a l 75cc Montesa squeezed by him to win the heat . Th e busiest man of the day , Jim Mc Guire, not only won the 90cc Exper t mo to- cross on his own Hodaka bu t too led Don Emde's Suzuki TM-250 to win second place honor s in the 250Cc Exper t class . Seventeen-year old Jim Harmon set such a s tzzltng pace in th e Open Novice cl as s tha t he won the fi rst two heats by more than a third of a lap , accumulating so ma ny points tha t all he had to do was finish th e final heat t o win. Bu t not being one to l oaf on the j ob, Jim got i nt o the same gr oov e and wheeled Mi ke Garrett's hot Norton Manxman to just as i mpres sive a win as the previous heats . A s usual th e 90cc Nov i ce c lass dr ew the biggest fiel d and it was som etimes difficult to tell which lap the bikes were on, but out of su ch confusion tom or r ow' s Experts emerge and now C . Cl aydon and his screaming Kawasaki are another st epcloser , havtng captured the most hectic class of all with D, Stauffer and R . Schaefer pressing him t o captur e secon d and third.
