The weather did not ha mper the heat of competi ti on or the specta tors' enthusiasm for the event. The track Is quite narrow but the floor gives quite good traction and only one rider got off during practice . Butch Corder, #92y fr om sacramento, suffered a real heart breaker when his Triumph just qui t while he was leading the semi -M ain. Butch has not found San Jose to his li king an d the former short track champion hasn ' t produced hi s us ual wins . Perhaps Santa Ros a will provide him with the chance to get back in his winning ways. Bill Jamison of San J ose earned the pole position for the Main Event but had to settle for se c 0 n d as Mike Yarn slipped by to lead a very fast fie ld to the fln1s h lin e . Mike won the Trophy Dash at Santa Rosa af ter taking the dash at San Jose the night befo re. Phil Can cilla lost a chaln half- way through the race to be s ide lin ed to watch. "AMA has for many years pe rmitt ed Its profess ional riders to compe te in race meets held in fo reign coun tries and sanctioned by the f o r e i g n governing bodies . section 16 of Ar ti cl e VII of the AMA rule s s tates; •While competing in foreign co untrie s , riders representing the United States s hall obey and come under the jurisdiction of the competition rules of the recognized foreign governing body .'
