The All-American crash tiUe now 15 beJd by Bill Jam lson wbo took his last ride as a NoVice and will be back in Fresno 00 January 7th as a full-fiedged but Well-bent Amateur • The heavy-throttle-banded youngster set new Indoor records of sorts when he went out for the 250 final and crashed three straight times. The first was an endo that nearly sent him over the wall. The second came ontha restart. The third and final f11p came on the far turn when he burled his front wheel Into three other riders aDd took them down on tile deck along with him. The fourth and final attempt to get the 25O's underway finally found Jamison staying upright with a slightly more COD--sarvatlve attitude toward his more experienced brother Amateurs and Experts and he finished sixth - on both wbeels. In the meantime, Mr. Mulder was oft to one of his perfect starts each and every time and breezed his way to the Main Event win for the second straight time and gave the Montesa brand three wins In a row. 250cc point leader; Phil Cancilla, atter being warned by the Referee about rough rldtng tactics In practice, played It so cool that he was bombed out of the Main Event on the last turn In the semi-final by up-and-coming short tracker Ken Weakley who appears to get better every week. Cancilla went to the sidelines with a grit of the teeth and a nat wallet. The more conservative 125cc class again found Cliff Aksland and his Hodaka as the combination to beat. Aksland extended his winning streak at Fresno to six In a row by once more winning the heat race, trophy dash and 12-lilp final for the ultra-lightweight riders. "Tiger" Jamison did manage to salvage some glory, however. He won his heat race witll one of the taster 250 times of the night and then came back on the Les Edward's Snzuld to capture the Trophy IBshfor the second stra1ghttime. More Clothing Laws If Helmets Pass SpeaIdng at California Governor' Reagan's Traffic safety Conference at the Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel last week, Assemblyman John F. Foran, author of California's motorcycle danger bill, admitted that the compulsory wearing of helmets was not the last item of protective clothtng he would try to legislate motorcycle riders Into wearing. In response to a question from the audience, which was largely made up of non-motorcycle riders, DemocratForan said that compulsory footwear and other items of "protective clothing" would be the subject of future legislative proposals. The compulsory helmet law, demanded by the Federal Dept. of Transportation, would open the cbannels for unlimited legislative control of wearing apparel for motorcycle riders and other highway users. • Governor Reagan at the same conference said that California wanted to be a partner with the Federal Government, but not have them telling us wbat to do. He Is a Republican. There Is one faster source of information on the motorcycle scene. The "grapevine," or word of mouth gets the news around qulcker.
