Bright sunshine favored the riders from the time they jammed into Sherman ~ Ames' Harley-Davidson shopinPomona, ~ Calif. to sign in until they pulled out of ex; Fontana's City Park on the way home. "" At the start, coffee was continually in .. short sllPP1y as the rider 5 drained each ~ urn as soon as it was set out. Fifteen ~ dozen doughnuts quickly disappeared and ~ were just as quickly followed by another t::I seven dozen. The 85-mile route was short by most ~ standards, but many riders described it r.:J as narrow, crooked, and time consuming. :i!: A good many of the riders' didn't arrive r.:J at the finish until after 3 p.m. oJ The Toppers started their fun and U games about one o'clock with a dart throw, croquet and when the finish closed, a piggy back race and boot race. Even with those activities, time weighed heavily for the early arrivals and one club was observed holding their meeting on the grass. Tbe catering truck previously arranged for by the Toppers failed to show lIP, so there was quite a lot of traffic between the park and downtown Fontana as the riders sought hot coffee and more solid sustenance. As soon as the poker hands were tallied, the Toppers silenced the record player that had been playing music all afternoon and called the riders to gather around and get their gold. Winners of bhe poker hands were: Male Solo ' 1. Len Cashman 2. Warren Northrup 3. Lance Mehus Passenger 1. Chris McKinney 2. Lynne Wortham 3. Sylvia Mehus Girl Solo 1.
