For those we have available a special deluxe motor coach that will accompany the tollr. Story and Pbotos by William Clark The name could be Jim Rice, "All American Boy," tor this rider looks like the Ideal type on and off the track. His Greeves always looks and pertorms !lawlessly. Combine with Ibis bls very smooth style and Jim came up as winner ot bls heat race, the Trophy L'ash and the Main Event at San Jose, Cal., on December 1. Mike Yarn was wearing all-new leathers but when it came time tor the Main they just didn't help in bls efforts to overtake Rice and he had to settle tor second. Mike became one of the victims ot contusion that almost caused a near riot. During the third Amateur-Expert heat race a rider tell and slid Into the guard rall very hard. Starter Chuck Guluizze reached tor the black tlag to be ready to stop the riders it necessary. As the tlag came out ot the rack It appeared to several ot the riders that It was waved and they pulled up, wblle Mike Yarn and Bobby Selt kept going. The race was completed and the riders and the crowd went into an uproar. The officials decided to re-run the race. Anyone wbo has ever started a race knows exactly how Chuck telt and the reallztion that no matter what you did there would be someone unhappy. However, the pro that he Is, Chuck Is one of the best starters in the racing business. When the race was re-run Bobby Selt took the lead tor all but the last lap when Mike got inside and went by and was out in front when the checker came down the second time tor the event. The large field ot Novice riders Is still holding up and are run separately trom the Amateur/Expert events. Last week's winner Bruce Anderson was playing basketball, Wheeler Gresbam is in the hospital trom an operation for a torn ligament received at last Sunday's Fresno race, and Chal De Cecco was ILt bls girl triend's birthday party. 'Ibis perhlLps mlLde 11 a little easier tor James Foley ot Walnut Creek to be the third rider to win the Main Event in as many weeks. His victory was not an easy one but he did come up with tour wins tor the evening. He won the 5th heat race, the 1st semi, the Novice Trophy L'ash and the Main Event. James has looked progressively better each week and wlll be a serious contender the rest ot the season. The 0-125cc event has continued to grow trom a special exblbition race the first night to two heats the second, and this week three heat races were required to pare down tor a Maln Event. The rider classes are mixed but all qualitlers tor the Main do receive a pay-off. Bill Jamison ot San Jose rode a Kanamota-prepared MotaBeta to first In hJs heat and the main event. The "hundreds" are running almost as fast as the 250's and are providing good racing for the spectators and needed experience tor the riders. (Results on page 16) ••••••••••••••••••• ...
