It was also the last race to be held on the Vegas Valley Raceway, wbichwW be demolisbed around tile tlrst of the year. Plans are already underway for another course to be built in the near fUture, whicb will leature mota-cross events, but in the meantime, races will be running In Las Vegas every Sunday at Craig Road Raceway with an ACA sanction. Later on, If Mr. Prlece gets the support from the riders, be wWlurnlsb a purse along with the trophies. Several States Represented TIle Cbamplonsbip TT Scrambles attracted some of the top riders from Arizona and California, as well as the Vegas regulars, and all were raring to go. With Impetuous bands on the throttle and engines roaring, the flag dropped and the anxious eyes of the tans saw the action begin. And what a day at tile races It was! The flrst beat of the day went to D. Gordon in a near pboto finlsb with M. North, b<;lth on Hondas. North led most of the way with Gordon finally taking over on the 4th lap. Little Mike North Is only 11 years old, but Is already a migbty big man at racing. In the first 250 Novice beat, Nick Bartlett took a fall on the second turn but got up under his own power. Bill Dickie led most of the way but ran out of fire toward the flnlsb. There was stlll enough in tIle old Bultaco to see him through, however. Ron Jones, also Bultaco, took the second 250 Novice beat, leading lrom start to flnlsb, and also won the MaIn Event. Chuck Hatche, and his a.ltaco took over lIIe Iud on I.p 2 of "e 250cc Am•• u.. Vegas Valley M.C. members were pleased at the turnout for their last race on the old track and bope to see one and all at the new one. Longwith on a Greeves. Tom Jones (H-D) and Jay Willey (Montesa) really lougbt it out for third, with Willey flnal1Y taking the number three spot. For the first two laps of the 500 Amateur/Expert go, Triumph-mounted Ray Nlcbols held the lead. Then Gary Jones aboard his BSA Gold star took over and from then on It was a one-man race. Open Novice winner, Matcblessmounted R. Miller turned back the three Triumphs 01 J. Myers, R. Mallory and D. Allen. Allen had a bit of bad luck at the starting Une and had to just tag along for the ride. All classes rode two ten-mile loops. Eighty-two Open Class riders roared to tile smoke bomb with Bill Friant leading on his Greeves and 17-year-old Barry Wetss, on dad's Trlumpb, close behind. Jim Martino (BSA) of the Checkers M.C. found the damp desert to his liking and led the first loop. Martino went on to win his tbird Ponderosa event. Friant, Prospector club member, held on lor second. The old desert veteran, Bill Hutton of the san Gabriel Valley M.C., was third on his trusty Husky. Hutton had won the Ponderosa five times in a row earlier this year• 'The 70 trallblkes buzzed oft with Barry Eisenberg (Hodaka) leading SGV member Wes Anderson Jr. (Hodalca) at the bomb. Dean Goldsmith (Hodaka) also liked the damp course and had a wheel-ta-wheel duel with Steve HollidaY, Rams club Hodalca rider, right down to the finish. llne. Goldsmith edged Holliday by two leet to win. Some of the rider s did not read the instruction sheets and were disqualified lor racing on an out-of-bounds road.
