HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM BASSEY•••
Jim Bassey is 41 years old this week.
He got ready for his birthday celebration
by winning 13 straight moto-cross races
at the famous and popular Bay Mare track
near Simi in the past few weeks.
He is unbeaten on his Harley-Dlvidson
in the Open Class, even though he often
bad to take on some of the stars of Ascot
professional racing, who practice at Bay
Mare in disguise. Last Sunday, the Harley
wasn't all together, so Bassey used his
fine-running Maico 360cc against the
Open Class Experts.
There was his ace rival Bruce Jackson
00 the starting line, riding J.N. Roberts'
super-tuned 360 Husky. "You've met
your match today, Jim," his rivals
taunted, trying to psyche him out.
But when the final flag flew, Jim
Bassey and his trusty 360cc Maico bad
won all six of his moto-crosses that
day, including points and trophies. The
points count toward the spectacular 5foot high trophy for the Bay Mare points
leader, to he awarded in January. Bassey,
with 1800 points, is now in the lead.
Second place is a NOVice, with 1600
points. Novice, Amateur and Expert
riders are awarded the same points for
winning at Bay Mare, so ihe supertrophy is still up for grabs. Races go on
there every Sunday, rain or shine, and
Saturdays the track is open for practice.
Bay Mare is located off Highway 118
between Somis and Moor Park.
