Point Fund Presentation and Party at Caesar's Palace (Palace Room), 4652 West Century Blvd., Inglewood, Calif. at 8:30 p.m., Sat~ ..... urday night, December 2nd, 1967. o CRASH FATAL TO AL vAtmERPDOL We are saddened to report that one of the best-liked and most enthusiastic of all desert riders, Al Vanderpool, lost his life in an accident during last weekend's Barstow to Vegas National Hare and Hound. About a quarter-mile out from the start, Vanderpool struck a telephone pole which was obli terated by the dust of the other leading riders. Number One rider Howard Jackson, following Vanderpool closely, hit the gUY wire of the pole and also crashed, sustaining a broken arm. Not only was Vanderpool tremendously competitive in desert events, but a credit to the entire industry. He bad formed a successful motorcycle shop, World Cycles at 3304 Sunset BlVd. in Los Angeles, and was held in high esteem for his honest dealings and pleasant, easy-going helpfulness to other riders. Deepest condolences are extended to Vanderpool's wife and two children in their loss, a loss that will be felt by all the motorcycle fraternity. 'jL~ P.s. See "''' fa..rite rid... at th. First race is carded for 8 p.m. There will be two classes - l25cc and 250cc, running heat races, semi-mains and Main Events. A top field of outstanding professional riders bas been lined up by Brymer and Dowis to perform in the saturday night event along with an attempt on a world record indoor motorcycle jump by Evel Knievel. GRAVES APPOINTED KAWASAKI SALES MANAGER Don Graves, familiar and well-liked personality in the motorcycle industry for many years, was appointed National Sales Manager for Kawasaki last week, replacing Skip Clark. Allan Massik of American Kawasaki becomes General Manager of both Eastern Kawasaki and the American Kawasaki western operation.
