TOYS FOR TOTS As you no doubt know the U.S. Marine Corps bas their "Toys for Tots" drive every year prior to Christmas. Again this year the members of the Oxnard Motorcycle Club are going to put on a "Toys for Tots" Poker Run. This run Is a little ditferent than most lnasm u.ch as we accept all size bikes and car entries. The doDation Is 50 cents and one new or repairable toy per persoD, with all proceeds going to the Marine Corps. In past years we have just drawn riders from this area as we didn't advertise any place but around bere. This year we are adding Field Events to the run and we are going to try to get riders from all of the Southern California area. We feel that runs like this endeavor to help better relationships between motorcyclists and the public, and also help to make a better Christmas for a lot of little kids that otherwise might not have any toys to play with. The date of our run Is set up for December 10th, 1967, sign in begins at 8: 00 a.m. Further Information available from the address below. RON SCHALL President, Oxnard M.C. P.O. Box 1094 Oxnard, Calif. 93030 NOTE TO BOB EBELING I just read your article In Cycle News In your Drag Scene "HONDA BEATS HARLEY". Well, I'd like to give you the facts behind this as Tommy Conner didn't seem to give them to you just right. I had to "spot" this l60Cc Honda over "SIX SECONDS", not FIVE, as you stated and also we use the Christmas Tree lighting system and when the last yellow light "went-out" I dropped the clutch and the BIG RED EYE "caught me, but even at this I passed the Honda and put more than THREE Semi-Trailer Trucks between us at the finish. My E.T. was 11.41 at 119.35 mph. So, please put this In your next Issue to let the Harley boys know exactly what happened on the "HONDABEATSHARLEY" Bit. Yours in Drag Racing, DAN JAMES Austin. Ilea. a...1IJNdt. C..",..l I live In an Isolated area, Westend, California, In the Mojave Desert. I go down below about once a month. There are times when I come Into the city that I would like to socialize with cyclists. I bought your paper to see If maybe some bar, coffee club or night club owners a d v e r Ii sed their places as gathering places for cyclists. There were no such advertisements. A cyclist gave me one address in Hollywood but It turned out to be a gathering place for homsexuals. I have nothing against homosexual motorcyclists' but I prefer the company of women, or men who are attracted to women. A plain old bar. I've only had my cycle for six months, a R-50 BMW. My first major contact with cyclists other than the ones in this area was at the Death Valley Run. I'm shy by nature and I was too embarrassed to ask where any of them hung out in the city. I even feel silly writing this letter. Can you help me? Whether you can or can't f enjoy your paper. I wish I'd come across It sooner. I would like to subscribe for one year. I enclose my check. Thank you. CHUCK BARAN P.O. Box 15 Westend, Calif. • Why don't a (ew ri ders drop Chuck a line and invite him down to their (avorite hangout to bolst a few next lime he's in town?")
