It was only Shorty's third Main Event win of the season that spanned 26 races from April until mid- November. It was, however, a solid come-from-behind effort for the Dick KeIrn BSA and the shortest rider in competition who calls Lawndale home. The halt-milers duplicated the triple upset turned in by the TT'ers from the week before as none of the three high point season riders were able to win the state title in the final race of the year. 5eabourne upset season point champion Dan Haaby in the opening beat race with Mel Lacher, Chuck Jones and sammy Tanner following with five-lap warmup wins. Tanner picked up his second straight Trophy Dlsh win in the fast three-Iapper that weekly pitted the four fastest riders against each other. Mel Lacher was second, Haaby third and seabourne, again in last. 11 Lacher Leads, T~eD ••• Lacher went after his first title in racing in the extended 20-lap final. The same distance the riders run for in the annual National race each september. Lacher went to the front, as usual, at the drop of the !lag with Tanner in close pursuit. Haaby gave third to seabourne as the riders started the second lap. Lacher led It all the way to the fourteenth lap before throwing his hand up and pull1ng to the pits with mechanical troubles. seabourne kept charging and closing from the second lap on and took over as soon as Lacher headed for the pits. Haaby started another one of his late lap surges and passed Tanner for second on the fifteenth round and made a serious bid for the win but it was just too much seabourne and too late in the race. It wasShorty's first Main Event win since last sept. 22nd. Tanner's Dash win and his third place finlsh in the final eased him past Chuck Jones for third place in the final Expert point stancrtngs by a narrow eleven points. seaboarn\!... by the way, was the only first year Expert to make the ten-rider state Cbampionsbip final this year. 5...• Distributed By: Webco Inc. and Sammy Tanner Distributing Co. .c 1967 J.
