Collecllne his Just desserts-Trophy Duh victor Blackle BrJlce. From Jell, Pat Gosch, Dick Hammer, Blackle Bruce and Elliott Schultz eet off the line lor a lhrllllne Trophy Dash. LOVING IN & fALLING OUT AT ASCOT Last Friday was one of the biggest nights ever on the half mile - and one of the roughest on the point leader s. Three straight upsets were scored in the expert heat races. Blackie Bruce scored a most impressive heat race win over Pat Gosch, sammy Tanner and Point leader, Mel Lacher. It was even a bigger surprise in tbe second heat race. Bruce Holland and Ralph White held a "Love-In" for five laps with Dan Haaby trying to pass both for the win. Immediately after the event, Holland and White had what is best called a, -Falling Out." The third and final heat race saw Chuck Jones hitting the dirt early and ElliottSchultz coming up late to pass and defeat Dick Hammer for the fastest heat race win of the night. It was a new face-race in the trophy dash with Bruce scoring a nipper over Schultz with Gosch running in third and Hammer taking fourth. The Semi-Main took on the look of a main event with Dan Haaby holding off repeated bids by Shorty seabourne for the win. sammy Tanner did not get inside the first four places at any time during the race and failed to make the main event. Tanner had been the main event winner the last two time previous to last Friday night. One of tile best Ding-Dong battles ever nil took place In the main eveat. Sch ultz led the first lap, Lacher came from the back row to lead the second lap. Lacher also led the next three laps by a matter of a few feet. Then it was Schultz back in front on laps six and seven. Lacher was in front by inches at the end of eight. Schultz was the leader at the end of nine laps. At the end of ten laps Schultz, Lacher and Bruce crossed the line nearly three abreast. Then Bruce moved to second as Lacher started to fade and Haaby picked uP steam. CONTINUm PAGE 2J
