, DID IT fOi A GIGGLE by Byroa "Mad Bomber"' Black Mike the Bike Hallwood has won more IT races (yawn) at the Isle of Man this year (snore). SO what else is new? Last year after picking up the Lightweight (250) race on the Honda 6, he was asked Qy an excited announcer what he was thinking about as he was racing. "I was figuring out the plot of a novel I'm readin g ri gb t now," he mused. "And were yo u going as fast as you could?" continued the announcer undannted. "Far from it," quipped Hallwood.. ifI'd gone any slower I'd have fallen · . . . . . . ... . ... ... over.- One British journalist was preparing to smoke his pipe one day, but had trouble striking the paper matches from a folder advertising a prominent English electrical equipment manufacturer. "Just like their ignition," commen~ed someone nearby. ·... . .. . ... ..... . My friend John Blanton has a· novel idea why Japanese racing machines are s u c h world-beaters. ·Why," I asked him, "is a Japanese two fifty cc machine so much faster than an English or Italian 250cc machine?" "Japanese ccs are bigger," he inscrutably smiled. · .... .. ....... . . . n,llI'fllcllut, lookl ",ully "liD. Sklp V,. L_...... There was a mini-bike sidecar exhibition just before the Trophy Dashes as in a very short while the sidehacks will be racing there, according to the track owner. That should be wild to say the least! The Powder Puff ,Association is also on tap for an exhibition (although that may be an unfortunate choice of words), on the TT track. Stan Rogers won the 100cc Trophy Dash and Keith Mashburn (BuUaco) the 250 Dash. Masbburn jumped the flag and was put back and Lee Stumpenhaus grabbed off the first lead with Gary Bailey (Greeves) right after him. On the very last lap Stumpenhaus went a little too wide and Mashburn ducked under him to take the win. During one practice session for the Isle of Man TT Races this year, there was a danger signal at a certain point on the course. When the riders returned to the pit, they found out why: the word went around that there bad been sbeep loose on the course."I know,· commented Yamaha rider Terry Grotefield, ·two passed me.- In the 100cc Main, Tom Rockwood shot into the lead wi tb Gary Bailey (Hodaka) in second. Stan Rogers dropped it after the jump and the race was black flagged. Rogers lay there for quite a while but recovered in time to re-start. Rockwood again took the lead and no one could take it away from him. Bailey finally nailed Rogers with excellent riding going on between the fourth and fifth place men, Tom Warren and Don Dudek. The oniy difference between them seemed to be that Warren could pull out of the turns better. PEGS FOR YAMAHA : , We are pleased to report that Wheelie Wheeler, the Lancaster, Calif.
