The weather was perfect for the 5O-mUer held July 2nd and the dust wasn't too bad. Smith and Hurd were first and second with San Diego riders Gene Fetty, on a Matc hie ss Metisse, and Bill SUve rthorn. on a 250 Husky, running third and fourth. Stan Colvin on a 250 Bultaco was the first Amateur through with John Anderson, on a 250 Husky, a close second. Novices Up Next When the Novices 250cc ran off, it was John Martin on a Matchless leading the way. Jim Doman on a 40· Triumph, finally took the lead and the win. Jim Stein on a Husky was the first 250 across and Ken Rennick on a Montesa followed right behind. These boys were third and fourth overall.
