Then Larry Chapman came tearing his way up from back in the pack to take the win. The scene was the Lodi Scrambles held June 30th. As usual the 100 class was loaded, but none of the heat winners won the Main. Jack Jensen was out in front then Harold Raggia took the lead. He lost it back to Jack, after a little wheel to wheel riding Harold went on to cop a close win. Jerry Shahan hjld a fairly commanding lead in the 100 Main. The rest of the pack was well bunched. .After several laps Childress made his move and took the lead with Robert Knudson right on his tail. Arnold Moos, Jerry and Von Lienulan moved in close but it was Childress, In the Main Terry and Bill Cruz had a difference of opinion about who was going to show the rest of the pack the way around. It lasted several laps then Terry took command. Jerry Gray had second .sewed up until he went a little wide and lost out to Bill Cruz. Rick Whiteacre and Eric Jorgensen made close battle of it in both the 500 Amateur heat and Main. Rick wasn't to be outdone and he rode a beautiful race both times out. Jorgensen pushed him hard all the way; it just wasn't his night. The 650 Amateur heat was a little milder as the main battle developed between William Kreeger and Clem Kramer. Clem finally made it by him to take the heat by a wheel. In the Main it was Kreeger all the way. SOEIIORE RECEIT BSA RESULTS: Knudson and Moos across the line in that order. Donald Clasby won the 250 Novice Main after chasing Jim Nichols for half the race. Jim bulled his way to the front of the pack at the start. It was short lived since Donald didn't like the crowd either and moved up. Phillip Hinkle and Jim rode neck and neck down the straightaway. Then Keith Carlson came up to do battle. He made his move a little late and ended up fourth. Naugbty Starters At Lodi when a rider causes a false start he gets put on the back line. Well half the 250 Amateurs started hack there. It didn't seem to bother Terry Hawley from charging to the front and leading all the way. Some of the riders went down and the rest were pretty well strung out. Lance Anderson went down 'hard. He got back up but didn·t finish the race. New M/C Faa During the intermission Stockton M.C. and Lodi M.C. had a Motorcycle Polo game. It was a wild and a furious contest. Words would not suffice to describe all the action. You would have to be there to see it. It sure looked like fun. Stockton won 8 to 2. They challenge any other Club to a game, and have a nice trophy to give to the winner. Lodi has the best turn out of all the tracks up here, this time hosting 223 riders and 1500 spectators.
