The second time, Ray went down going into the first corner, probahly hecause something had been adversely acljusted in the first spill. When the race was oveljthough, he had made up for the messy starts. He won. Tony Williams, the other rider, who had gone down with Ray, came in second and Steve McCant came in third. POp Corder Still in Business Bill Jamison, the fastest qualifier, won the first heat. The other winners were Ken Weakley, Carl Cranke, and Jim Odom. Carl Cranke, from the same stable, so to speak, as Butch ·Mr. Short Tracker" Corder, won the Trophy Dash and" A· Main. Butch's dad, Pop Corder. still tunes Carl's machines. The Special Event winner was Mike Akatiff. Billy Graham placed second, and Jim Ehright placed third. First place in the "BO Main went to Jerry Mather, with Gordon Card taking second and Dick Crane taking third. Dick Crane, who went down hard in the first lap, had to have his steel shoe taken off before his bike could be moved•.After sitting down while his bike was checked and started for him, he limped back with it to start again. Second and third positions in the· A" Main were taken by Roger Goldthwaite and Jim Odom.
