Tim Fitzgerald, Robert Haustein and Gerald Henderson put on a precision riding display and were so close that they looked almost like only one rider. Paul Johnson came from back in the pack to grab third. The Main Event was stopped because Fitzgerald tangled with the fence and fell. On the restart, Haustein took the lead again with Fitzgerald and Guy Bates on his tail. Fitzgerald and Bates got tangled up and they went down with Bates getting back up to squeak into third. Paul Johnsafi took the checker first, followed closely by Hack Hackley and Bates. Eight riders started and only three finished - kind of a weird ending.
