For those of you who spend your weekends camped in a desert dry· PHOE"'X •••••• •••••• fLASHES Area abounds with natural beauties. BultaCD and pasMncer slosh throup Plru C...k water crosslnc. by Jobn Fox PHOENIX, Ari:znna, Beardsley track- We now have one race day a month instead of two. The'se will be held on the first Sunday of the month. You know it is such a ball to see all these desert destroyers out in such force. Today we had about 40 hard core racers all looking for their share of the gold. The boys tell your correspondent that they sure would like to see more participants from Tucson and Las Vegas- also any riders from anywhere who like to go fast. Beardsley Moto X Lets get down to the goodies! In the 125 Amateur, the first race was all Harold Beard's on his Yamaha. He led from start to finish with Fred Krouse second, third was an unknown or could our correspondent have been out there on his lizardous Honda? The second race was the same all the way. The third go was pretty clOSt! and Harold got to pushing just a little too hard and fell, thus letting Fred and this fellow on the Honda by. Overall it was Harold Beard firs t, Fred Krouse second and the Cycle News Hot .shoe third. 12Scc Experts The Halfords, Tom and Jim, had themselves another couple of trophies this week. We would be willing to offer a little wager to anyone who would like to try their hick against these boys. But remember these guys are on small Yamahas and turn within two seconds of the fast 650 s. Are you game? The 250 bi ke s ran all scattered out. Brian Ross was out on a new Bridgestone 1:i'5 racer and if this was a preview of things to come. look out people! Brian ran all three races, starting farther back each time. Ove!'" all it was Brian first, Bob Addington on his Ducati second, and third was sam Wright on a Honda 160. Open Amateur hero of the day was John Camp, who made it a runaway. John has really improved and promises to be a hard charger when he starts riding in the Expert class. John turned back three good running BSA Victors for a well earned first overall. John Law Rides A~ainl The Open Expert class was a thrill a minute. Jon Sellers was hack with his Triumph and took the lead every time and made some people look like they were in the wrong race. The real battle was between Byron Boaz and Lakin Gabbert, both riding real well, and constantly battling for second place. Jon made it look easy while everybody else was wo,king hard. Byron finally fought off Lakin for second overall and Lakin got third. Both Lakin and Byron were on those fabulously fast Billy Halford BSA Victors. Look for us in two weeks with more reports of the Cycle News Hotshoe striking again, the dangerous Halfords zapping all comers, Brian the Bandito. the jet set camp. and will Byron Booze evade Jon Law? Also some fabulous pictures as these and many more gi ve it another bash. check points along the way at various points. .Attending clubs included the Washington 9gers of Seattle, Tacoma Jellow Jackets, Hoquiam Ramblers, and the Blue Pacific Riders from Aberdeen - all clubs from the State of Washington. Coopers Team Up Bob Dietz lucked out and came out on top with the high hand with Bob Heinlan, Tacoma a close second, A little fellow with the ripe old age of 10 by the name of Lynden Cooper from Hoquiam, riding as a passenger won the Low Ball trophy with his brother, Norman getting the first Passenger hand and Rose Alexander taking second. By virtue of taking a spill on a patch of dirt, Carl Wilson won (??) the hard luck trophy. HoQuiam Ramblers were awarded the Long Distance club and the Tacoma Yellow Jackets showed in sufficient numbers to be awarded the large club trophy. Tex Butterfield rode far enough to get long distance rider. F.est srtlce bas do"patH lIan, trails on lit. Frazi. f. bike.. by Road Runner Sunday, June 11, 1967 started out as another dreary day in the city of Everett, Washington. The sky was overcast and the rain forecast. But, to the surprise of the general public, 42 motorcycle riders gathered for another run at the gold. The run took in Quite a bit of the Snohomish Valley and country on the east side of Lake Washington near Seattle. It was a relatively short run with the time needed to complete a little over two hours.
