The Open Amateur-Expert Mota was a repeat of the 250 class. An Amateur won that too! Bow are you going to explain that one, guys? Mike Van Acker appeared to be the guy to do the job as he won the fIrst but it was Amateur Jim Bailey (BSA) in second. In the second moto it was Bailey who won by passing Mike on the yellow flag llUl In the third they had a start calcuiated to make a starter faint because after they jumped the gun once, he let them go with half the line blasting off and half waiting. Lone. kept her lI.a .., wlnnln, at Elsinore. .. ".IDOcc ~Ell fubn. ~ II On Sunday, June 4, 1967, the Everett Motorcycle Club of Everett, Washington, peld its third annual West Cascade Endurance Run. And for the third year in a row, the weatherman smiled on us - nothing but good, warm sunshine. Even though the sun was out, the riders found wet brush on the trails and lots of mud. At exactly 9:00 a.m. star, ter Larry Goroski waved off the first rider. This was to contin ue until all 174 entries had departed. Five of these were young ladies as we were having a powder puff class for the first time. Out of this group, 100 returned later in the day after completing the 70 mile run and making all the check points. After the last rider checked out, the sign-up and pit crews took advantage of the nice weather to try for a suntan. About this time of day, however, most of the riders probably wished they"could have joined them. Someone had seen fit to remove the markers at a crucial turn between Check 2 and Check 3. Most of the riders went to the right, and this was wrong. This trail sent them into a series of deep mud and water holes which had been part of last year!; run. Chairman Roy Force and his layout crew had worked long and hard to eliminate this area and had made a new trail around it. Most of the riders recovered though and went on to finish the run. Those who didn't managed to find the gas check and g« an easy ride in one of the gas trucks. This is where th.e 1966 winner, Robin Wilson of Kent, retired his Yamaha with a broken engine case and a bad transmission. Our 1967 Overall champion is Larry ButterfIeld from Centralia. Larry rode a 90 Bodaka and lost only 20 points. .A close second Overall and first in the 250 class was Russ Bjornstad of Puyallup. Russ was Greeves mounted and lost 22 points. Elaine Annen of seattle finished fIrst in the powder puff class on her Honda 90. Jim Murphy from Port Orchard brought his Hodaka in first in the 100cc class. Cliff SChoening, 175 Kawasaki, from Bremerton, was first in the 200 class, and Kurt Lamberton, also from Port Orchard, won the Open class on his BSA. The Everett Club is also planning another desert cross-country race in the vantage area which proved to be 50 popular with a great number of riders from this area. Our tentative plans call for Sunday, september 24. Posters will be out as soon as details can be arranged. (ae-I&a . . _ 16)
