Eddie Mulder led the first lap until Van Leeuwen passed him, and Palmer with stops pulled, moved into second. Skip, who was having handlebar troubles was caught by Palmer in the back section. With the Triumph on the inside, and the Norton on the outside, they went hard into the turn. That was all she wrote for the Flying Dutchman who lost his wings and crashed hard. He managed to remount though, and finish the race. Eddie Mulder took second and Dusty Coppage third. Mulder Hot Trophy Dash winner was Eddie Mulder who grabbed off the lead at the beginning and held it all the way. High point .Amateur Larry Wilburn (Triumph) won the .Amateur Main. He had a nice lead built up when he glanced back and realized that Ron Miller had really been creeping up on him. so Larry gassed it hard again and moved away from the hardcharging Miller. Mike Lithicum and Jan Crawford provided the most ac"tion:- s-wapping places back and forth. On the yellow lap something hung up momentarily in Lithicum's transmission and Phil Todd, who was right behind him shot into the fourth place. Then just before the checkered, Todd was repassed by Lithicum in exactly the same place, right between the two jumps, and lost his fourth place by a whisker. Ferro Pleases Crowd Man tesa-mounted Chuck Baker was the Novice here, although challenged early by John Riggen (Bultaco) and Dave Smith (Harley-Davidson). On the last lap Smith put the pressure on Riggen for the second place spot but just couldn't Quite make it. Early on in the Main, Bob Ferro brought murmurs from the crowd when he had to go off the course onto the asphalt section to mi ss a downed man. He circled around and salled back over the three foot back in a beautifuljump and then set back off through the pack to an eventual fifth OveJ-all.
