Comic relief was provided for
at) several hundred ride rs and spectators
during a rainy afternoon of scrambl!! ling in the mud at Lodi. To claim
that the surface was slick would be
~ an understatement•••it was like
~ riding on glass on which oil had
'"' been poured.
~
Riders charged down the straightIoril away only to spin and go back the
..,J
way they came. Even the referee.
~
trying to cross the track. fell flat
U on his rear. When he tried to get
uP. he promptly fell on his face. One
of the riders had to crawl across
the finish line on all fours ••• it
was too slick to walk.

Jim Odom, half-mile and TT star,
proved that he could wing it in the
mud also and slithered off with the
Open Expert trophy. He was unofficially crowned "King of the Mudders" at the end of the day.
Others who slushed themselves
to first place were Dennis Robertson
(60cc class). Henry Robertson (l75cc
class), Lance Anderson (200cc
class), Ronald Davies (350cc Novice.) Jim saitone (500cc Amateur).
Cliff Spair (250cc Novice). Jim saitone (250 Amateur) and Art Zimmerman (250 Expert.)
