There were plen1;y of crashes during the evening to give the spectators plenty of thrills, but no serious injuries. Soon after the starter dropped the white flag in the first heat of the l00cc claSs. Spatky Pinola of sacramento crashed into the walL After the race was black nagged, and the ambulance called onto the track, it was learned that Pinola had only a real sore knee - where he put it through the spokes of his bike. The 17 riders in the 200cc class also rode in three heats of six laps each. From the first beat Richard LOllez 1)f Rio Vista. Bultaco, and Dave Kline of Roseville, on a Ronda, moved to the Main. When the biggest of the fiat tracking bikes, the 250s, started their three heats Bill Krill of Marysville, and Bob Vaughan of Oroville, took first md second plaee. Bultaco riders, Ron Bowling of Willow Creek and Bill salzman of san Mateo, took the second go round. TbiTd heat winners were Mike COcbran of NorthH.igblands, Bultaco, and George MCCarty of Red Bluff on a Honda.. Mike Yarn got the lead off the line and held it until the last lap when Amateur Roger Goldthwaite, last weeks winner. ducked in as Yarn went wide. With one lap to go, Bultaco-mounted Goldthwaite went on to take the checkered nag. It was a battle all the way with Goldthwaite trying to pass Yam on almost every straight and turn. And his vigor payed off. Almost a full half lap behind was the restofthepack. Harley-Davidsonmounted Amateur Art Bernheisel ran third the entire race with the Expert Rich Hardmeyer taking fourth. In the Trophy Dash Mike Yarn turned back the other three riders to take the win. Roger Goldtbwaite finished second with Lloyd Houchins and Russ Powell taking third and fourth. In Novice action Jim Casey took home tOll honors. Jim won his heat, tbe Trophy Dash, and the Novice Main. Last weeks winner Tony Williams and Frank Hall went down hard off the line but both were in the restart. n flll1rth. Nearly 110 riders showed up at 'Cycleland Speedway, 'near Chico, 'Calif., on saturday, May 20, for the weekly fiattrac k rae e.s.. Just after sundown the starter waved the 100cc machines out for tbe first practice to start the evening's race on time. Members of Valley MC were sponsors. There were 40 riders in the 100 class, resulting in four beats with the winner moving to the Main. Seeond through fifth place riders earned chances to ride in the two "Semis. The first two from each -semi met tbe 1)ther winners in an eight-lap eight-man Main, which was taken once again by Novice rider St'even 'Goff of Oroville on his Kawasaki. Non-qualifiers in the 100 class were eligible to ride in a B Main, 11'1 hich 11'1 as handily won by Bob Runge of Willows on a Honda 90.
