H-D's Turn is-Lap Final Then it was Harley-Davidson's turn with Mel Lacher and Mert Lawwill. Each won their respective heat races. Tanner was turned back for the third week in the heat race, which was won by White. He finished third behind Chuck Jones who came , Back came the fastest ten Experts for the 15 lap feature. Haaby shot to the front with Lacher right behind at the end of the first lap. Then Tanner, the iast man to make the Main Event, zoomed up to take over second and chase Haaby all the way to the finisA. a POO' start on Woods for th.lIMn Ev.1 Lacher had his hands full the first half of the race trying to hang onto third. Jones, White and Chris Draayer all pressed hard before the mite from San Diego sewed it up 'On the late iaps. Odom by Hal f a Lap Jimmy Odom, making his second appearance at the Ascot half-mile, made a shambles of the Amateur class in both the heat race and Main Event. He posted the best heat race time, four seconds faster than that of point leader, Marty MacDonald. It -was a runaway in the ten lap final with Odom out in front from start to finish and a half a lap ahead at the checkered flag. Previous point leader and Main Event winner, Jan Crawford, drove in too hard in his heat race and slid out of the running for the rest of the program. He also walked away. The new and exciting Novice class was again just that with Rick Woods, Dave smith and Jim Lesley VI clo, Haaby receives spoils.
