TROJAN SPEEDWAY TT ALL RECORDS SHAnERED All track records fell last Thursday night in the second sportsman TT race at the Playboy's Trojan Speedway. Stan Rogers was the first to start the assault on the record book when he won his heat race in ClassOne, aboard a Honda 90. Tom Rockwood then came on in Class Two I on a Montesa 175, to knock out the old five lap mark for the class. Then it was Eric Oleson's turn in Class Three, on a Montesa 250, who followed the other two riders and smashed the old mark for the higger lightweights. The Main Event for the smaller 100cc machines proved to be a threeway scramble early in the race with Jim Raymond in front of stan Rogers and Gary Bailey. The th ree rode tire to tire for better than half the race before Rogers fell off. Bailey tried for the win over Raymond right down to the last turn. But Raymond was not to be denied his first Trojan track win on his Honda 90. Tom Rockwood became the third rider to become a double winner at Bill FullDn and till Honda at SPlld" Trojan by winning the 200cc Class Two Main Event over point leader Tom Warren. Rockwood led from start to finish and set a new Main Even t track record. He now joins Keith Mashburn and steve McMahan as the only riders to win Main E vents at the every Tuesday night short track races and the every Thursday night TT events. Denny Polliccia pushed Eric Oleson to a new track record in the 250cc Main Event with Oleson in front all the way. It was'Oleson's first win at Trojan and he also took the point lead away from Keith Mashburn. . In the Sweepstakes Handicap Final. the event that pits the top three from each main event against each other, Tom Rockwood caught up with Jim Raymond on the last lap and the two riders headed for the final turn side by side, with Rockwood shooting off the course and Raymond in for the overall win. The weather was much improved compared to the first race. It was warm and sunny all day and pleasantly cool for the races. The fans were lively. as were the hospital. sammy Tanner lost it in the 2; same turn during the Trophy Dash, with no injury, and was up and running almost ~ before anyone knew he went down. The Man-Miles Trophy was awarded ~ to the Sociables Motorcycle Club who ~ rode 1,108 miles to attend the race. Motorcycle clubs were very evident in ~ fo) ~ fo) ...:I U :>.. Gene Romero and another rider went down in turn two. Both men were taken to the hospital, where Romero was found to have a broken leg. sammy Tanner lost it their tries for the Club Attendance Trophy, to be awarded at the end ofthe season. Butch Corder suffered a nasty spill at last Sunday's Carlsbad road race and was hospitalized for what was earlier thou gh t to be a broken back. Word has reached CYCLE NEWS that his condo iii on is not as serious as suspected and that he will be alright and racing again. Medical authorities have diagnosed a broken vertebrate. Fans and competitors will be interested to know that Bulch1S hospital bill will be pald lor by the insurance company which underwrites the monthly Carlsbad events. For those competitors who may have been in doubt as to whether or not Carlsbad carried any insurance on its Sportsmen events, the answer is an emphatic "Yes!" , according to traci management. It looks like Gene Romero, the San Luis Obispo Tiger. will assume the role of spectator and racing ad visor during the next few weeks, for the young charger will be sidelined with a broken leg, suffered at Tulare also last week.
