Jim Deehan took the 250cc honors aboard a Kawasaki samurai, passing Tucson's Yogi Mariscal and steve Pederson. In the under 250cc classes, Dave Damron again came uP as the winner in the 200cc division on a Suzuki with Larry SChoenfelder winning 125cc honors on a Honda. Tony Nicosia on a Honda 50, bested Skip Talbot for 50cc victory. In the production lightweight divisions for street-equippedmachines, it was Jerry Redden on a Suzuki, over Yamaha-mounted Tony Denius and Bultaco rider Jim Davis. Jim Damron won the 200cc production class on a Suzuki 200, with Roger Baeder the winner in the 100cc class on a Kawasaki. Larry Singer was again the winner of the street 50cc class on a Mondial. Perfect racing weather greeted the riders. Many machines suffered due to the warm weather and were out of the running in practice or in the early heat races. 81, bore rider arholes mounllnto Clrllbldl Hllrpln. Bad Luck for Corder, Haaby TlYing road racing for the second time was Butch Corder. Butch got on the front brake too hard in practice and was pitched off his 500cc Triumph and hospitalized with a cracked neck and damaged elbow. Dan Haaby again had his usual bad luck at road racing events and was out of the running with oil pump problems on his BSA 500. Chuck Sedgewick blew his engine in practice, streaming oil over much of the course. Right behind came two other riders who hit the slick and fell. Both walked a way as Sedgewick pushed his bike back to the pits. Arizona's Yogi Mariscal rode his second road race on a Yamaha 250 and led many of the veterans much of the race before missing a turn.
