Blasting across the sage brush and sand at the drop of the banner the 115 Open class riders had their work cut out for them. Old desert veteran Bill Hutton gave the younger set a riding lesson by leading from start to finish on his Husky. Jim Martino was a distant second on a BSA, Ron Fry on a Husky managed third, barely nosing out Big Jim Camaret on a Triumph. Don Hudson, on leave from Vietnam, borrowed Jack Ross' Triumph and came in 24th overall. Forty-six trophies went to the Open class riders. • Trail Bikes One hundred and thirteen trail bikes took off shortly after the open class. Greg Miller, Hodaka, was leading at the end of first lap. Greg fought off Jim Heininger, also on a Hodaka to take the win•. L. Keller, Honda: was. a close third followed by J. Holliday also on a Honda. Popular Rosie Martino was first girl in and forty-six trophies were . awarded to the trail bikes. Next Ponderosa runs will be Memorial Day. May 30th. and Sunday June 4th. ~.
