Advanced planning resulted in the races running oft like a precision machine and a two-and-one-halt bours at good racing for the riders on the lightweights. Over sixty riders were on band for the first of what is to now be weekly oval track racing on Tuesday nights. There were no accidents. Ted Yoder and Lee Stumpenbaus battled for honors in the 250cc class with Stumpenhaus winning his heat with the tastest time of the four ti ve lap events. Then it was Yoder's turn in the ten lap tinal. Lee was the early leader until ignition trouhles dropped him back for two laps. The red hot newcomer opened up wi th a big lead in the heat race and looked like a sure winner until he fell oft. coming out of the final turn. In the ten lap final he was again out in front early in the race, taking the turns full bore and using up all the race track. Then the engine died, dropping him out of contention. Two Tom's, Tom Warren and Tom Clark then moved UP to run a two rider race to the finish wi th Warren in front. Barry Sulkin finished third. The largest entry at the night carne in the 100cc class and fi ve heat races were run. Steve McMahan clocked the fastest heat win time, faster than that of the larger 200cc class! Paul Wilde, Steve Rispin, Bud Berry and Vince Graves also won their respecti ve heat races. All ti ve heats were closely contested by the little jobs. The race most of the way was for the next three positions between Wilde, Tom Rockwood and Vince Graves. The three came out of the tinal turn together, with Wilde holding second and Graves nipping Rockwood for third right at the finish line. The Playboys then added another touch of showmanship with a handicap sweepstakes race that pitted the top three from each main event in a special 15 lap feature. The tOOcc riders lined up half way down the back stretch. the 200cc men were on the first turn and the 250's started on the regulation starting line. The 250 lads came UP as the winners but it took over ten laps for them to catch Wilde on his 100cc machinp-o Ted Yoder was the overall winner, Tom Warren was the highest finishing 200cc rider and Wilde took fifth overall to lead the 100' s.
