SAN DIEGO INDOOR SEASONER Experts Butch Corder and Bob Bailey and Novice Tom Rockwood shared the spotlight at J.C, Agajaaian's first indoor short track race at San Diego last Satll'daY night, One of Ibe largest crowds ever to see an indoor race in the West was on hand .... a full night of both 1l1l1cc and 250cc concrete racing under the roof. Coqer gralllled the 250cc Main Event win with Bailey taking the 250cc Troplly Dash over Corder. Busiest rider of the night was first year Pro Tom Rockwood, who scored a clean sweep in the lOOcc class by winning heat race, semi, trophy dash and final. The green plate rider then switched machines and won the 250cc heat race, with the fastest time of the five preliminary events for the larger of the lightweights. Rockwood won a total of five events in both classes before being turned back by Corder and Sonny Nutter in one of the three 250cc semi-main events. Corder gained revenge from the last Long Beach indoor event, when he was out in front, only to drop out with engine problems. At San Diego it was Jack Sinmons in the lead in the early laps until Jack crashed. This gave Corder tbe lead but he was pressed hard by Clyde Litch until Clyde abo took the faJI~wn route. This shot Bob Bailey to second place, his best showing in indoor competition. Jack Simmons found the concrete surface a bit too dicey and crashed while leadlne. Corder Versatile Corder DOW holds Main Event win hooors at Long Beach, San Diego and San Francisco and makes him the only rider in competitioo to win at more than two tracks. The lOOcc class was a two rider duel between Rockwood and Ron Taylor. Each rider won his respective heat race and semi-main before lining up siele by side in the final. Rockwood led from start to finish b~ t Taylor closed much ground in the late laps to run a close second. Sixty riders entered· the first event of what may become monthly affairs. There were a total of 27 spills and crashes during the program but again no injuries. Joining the list of the current ·Crash Parade· were such riders as Simmons, Blilaco-mounted Larry Helnsolmann leads Jack Simmons, Ralph White, and Clyde L1tch In the mad Indoor scramble for the 2S0cc Main Event money. Full-coveraee headeear was favored by a majority of riders, Includlne l00cc class ..Inner Tom Rockwood. Litch, Ralph White. Dan Haaby, Cal Rayborn and Travis Petton. Agajanian has slated two more indoor events at San Diego for May 20th and June 10th. The San Diego track, although longer, was considered faster than the ones run at other locations in the state.
