The American Fifty Association was treated to unusualJ,y good weather Sunday, APril 9th, as the Tiny Bear Warmup got underway near the top of Cajon Pass. Rod Montgomery, president of the Association, had laid out a long, fast course with plenty of rough and sandy spots to test a rider's skill. The completely dry track was in perfect condition for the running of more than fifty ride's on all types of machinery. The five eight-mile loops were assaulted by all riders in one massed run. with the 50s and girl riders in the back raw. The first girl rider to make the three loops was Patty Dmke on a 90cc Tohatsu, followed by Faith Montana on a SOcc Tobatsu. Faith also took third overall in the SOce class. No other girl riders finisbed, but it's good to see these two out tbere tr ying. The Twedells have been racing for four years and have paired together to make a powerful team. They led from start to finish to take first and second place. Thi rd spot in the 1.00cc class was grabbed by Dave Damron after moving through the pack, showing some very skillful riding on his Ocelot Engineering Hodaka. Both fourth and fifth places were claimed hy Honda 5-90s which were clearly out-handled by the winning Hodakas. The American Fifty Association will award trophies to the first six places in each class at the Tiny Bear Race on May 7th. If the Warmup has been any indication of how the Tiny Bear will be run, then the mce will be well worth seeing. Last year over 78 riders signed up and this year the entry may well top one-hundred. With a well-organized and challenging course like this, the Tiny Bear Race can't miss, so we'll see you there! (Results on page 16)
