ADElIINTO HARE SCRAMBLES Report & Photos by Dick "ript J.N. Roberts aad Husqvama blasted to the finish line tirst to make two. overall wins in a row at the Adelaato Hare Scrambles. April 16. His win was not aa easy one because J.N. bad to fight off a number of determined riders. Tbe starting banner was placed on a truck about 100 yards in front of the starting line. At the drop of the banner, 271 combined Open Class and LightweiglJt riders took all tor open territory aad beaded for tbe smoke bomb. placed on a low bill five miles out. The entire course was going to be mostly open boondock country. fast bumpy aad dusty. At the smoke bomb it was J.N. Roberts first, with Bill Friaat aD a Greeves second. aad Gail Ferrell on a Triumph third. Two miles after tbe smoke bomb. the course ran through some rocky 1l1l and down washouts. Here J.N. hit a rock which pushed him sideways and after fighting a slide for about 50 feet. the bike just tossed him off. Four riders passed him at this point and now it was his turn to eat some dust. or as J.N. put it. "It was really a dusty bugger! Getting off in the rocks almost cost me the race since it was hard to re-pass in the dust.· J. N. Goes for Two Oft Into tho proverbial cloud of dusl!
