corAn- ( Continued from page 5) aad your second ride costs you an extra $1.00 entry and you don't get any points or monl!3' If you win the b1gget" class.) (Ron came, saw, conquered and presumably collected. If I may be excused an edilorlal comment, I think the rider who gets paid for winning the 350cc class should be riding a machine of the capacity of 251ce-350cc. The AFM is proud of its ~ntematlonal-style racing, yet the FlM IS very strict about these capacities. To deny a rldet" the chance r 10 rI de another race for fun wo uI d be ...fair, but allowing a sq»erior ridet" on a suPerior machine to sweep the cream of monl!3' and possibly points in sevet"al classes seems less than correct.) Grant was first into tum one, Baumann second, Triumph-mounted Dave Bostrom third, then Eric Dahlstrom in his first race after a two-year layoff on Precision Machining's new Honda 450 racer, Dick Kilgroe (Honda 450) and Art Bemheisel, a popular AMA dirt racer sixth on a H-D sPortster XLCH. Again Baumann and Grant went at it IASUII' Ofl - ~nning to end. Sadilek and strong were ditto for second, but there the comparison ends. P&C's style has evolved since last season into a smoother thing, but s&s still must fight their rig around the course with sheer force of will. Once Sadilek got his power wheel in the air' with the rig balanced on the front wheei and the sidecar wheel. Every comer is an adventure in crossed-up power sliding, for Sadilek and strong. The outfit runs telescoPic forks .mich aren't up to the tremendous sideloads placed upon them and they Oex, -ung the front wheel do fantastic erratic things. sadilek and Strong alone are woltb the price of admission. Two other new outfits were out at Cotati. Malcolm Parker and his wife Jenny, from Croydon, England and now living in San Mateo had a ne:' kneeler Mal had just completed. It was the rig's first outing and some teething problems were evident, but the machine looks beautiful and the Parkers obviously have the know-how to get it around the course very quickly. Merv Wright and Eldon Parker were aboard anotherkneeler, this one imported from England last month. Teething troubles were eviden t here, too, as Merv was unahIe to coax the revs from the 500cc Triumph engine. AS more outfits are getting built (Parker is building JIlem to order - see Cycle News's classified section) the class will get better and better. Pridmore/Caesar won the event with Sadilek and Strong second, the Parkers third, and another Harley Rig, Dave Roesch and Tom Ridyard third. (Results on page 16) Wbat goes iDto iL By Die!< Kilgme When we first heard that San Francisco's most promising arid affulent Honda dealer,Stan Magill, had developed a motor oil exclusively for air cooled engines, we frankly wondered how one could improve over existing products. Acc'!rding to Mike Mann, Honda of S.F:s serVlce manager, "today's high RPM high heat range engines have different stresses and oil needs than we realized at first. Our experience in repairing engines for both street and racing bikes led us to suspect that insufficient oil strength could be a prime cause of many major hreakdowns." . Convinced of an industry-wide need for a better oil, Stan embarked on an extensive research and testing program that included exhaustive 20 hour tests of actual 4 and 2 cycle motorcycle engines by two of the west coast's leading oil companies. The formula for the oil that most successfully passed all phases of these tests was a careful blending of base oils necessary to cope with the nofoam, no-ash, high film-strength requirements. The only "name" additive we could pry out of Mike was the name of the detergent, Orinite. And our own racetesting has shown that this oil will loosen dirt we never knew existed for the first couple of changes. after which you'11 see cleaner oil on your dipstick for a longer time than you'll at first helieve! We can safely say that Kasumi oil doesn' t foam, leaves no ash, and excels CL YMER'S MOTORCYCLE BOOKS ·Our l.atest 800ks MODERN MOTORCYCLE MECHANICS This new. co"!pletet, rewised, fiftb edition ha~ chap.. ters. on DeSI.Cn, Operation.
