WHITEMAN
Undaunted by a diminutive entry
list and threatening clouds, the AFM
boys put on a well-run and exciting
race for the few spectators that
weren't afraid to brave the possibility of a downpour Sunday.
Showing all others around the Whiteman course, which now features a continuously banked north turn, was san
Mateo AFM ace Ron Grant. Grant showed
himself to be the star of the day by winning three out of a total of six solo
events and placing second in one.
The unofficial -King of Whi ternan,Ron Pierce, couldn't stay on his throne
for this event and spent most of the day
chasing Grant's tailPipes. Pierce did a
most creditable joh, considering the fact
that he had to use his showroom-stock
pit motorcycle for competition. His
regular macadam machine left him in a
lurch, leaving Ron no alternative but to
use his utility Yamaha for the. race.
AFM president Jim M....ing mustered
enough courage to ride passencer for
fearsome -Crash- Roescb in a special
sidecar exbibtttoo lace against tbe team
of Putt aod RiclYard.
The concluding event of the da.y was
another exhlbitiOD race composed of all
the machines remaining 10 the area at
the end of the day. Kawasaki-mounted
steve Pedersoo emerged the victor, taking home a magnum of champagne as
prize for his wiD.
