HI-JINX af tlte SCRAMBLES Report and Photos by Larry Welborn RADER THE RIDER Mark Rader propelled his Honda 6-90 to a first place finish in convincing fashion in the Hi Jinx Family Motorcycle Club's Palmdale Jackass SCrambles on Feb. 12. Rader lapped every other rider on the tbree-mile course with the exception of second place finisher Steve Paul, aboard a Bridgestone SCrambler 90. Tbe course was limed out over three very tough first gear hills. sandwashes and bone-jarring cross country sections. Average lap time was 5 minutes for the top riders. Bill Passes Bill Freddie Mendez riding another Honda 6-90 captured third place. despite running out of gas in the middle of the race. Bill O'N eill on a Yamaha 80 passed Bill Davis on a Hodaka on the last lap to gain fourth position, with Davis placing fifth. Bud Dinslow led Ray Carvajal across the finish line in the three hour Le Mans style race to nail down sixth. Botb riders were on Yamahas. Steve Paul jumped out to a Quick lead on the first corner, and held that advantage for six laps. Rader then passed Paul and led for the rest of the race. Wheelie Costs a Spot Mendez ran a constant third for most of the race. O'Neill and Davis swapped back and forth during the last couple of laps, and O'Neill took advantage of Davis when the latter pulled a wheelie on one of the hills. and had to restart his engine. No injuries to the riders were reported during the course of the race. but a few of the bikes suffered damages due to crashe s.
