I understand the Japanese are going
to import a new type of polka-dotted
motorcycle clothing. The new line of
apparel doesn't boast anything new in
the way of protection or warmth. The
only claim is that you won't have to get
it cleaned every time you ride through a
swarm of insects.

Just as the Ford Motor Company created a sensation with the introduction of
the Mustang a few years ago, I believe
Royal Enfield will start to turn a lot of
beads with tbeir new 750cc CUstom Street
SCrambler.
Tbe Mustang was tbe dream of a designer, and although the car didn't
pioneer anything especially new mechanically, it's price, styling and "sex
appeal" aade it a best seller.
Tbe same story migbt bold true for
Frank Cooper wbo is the Western Importer for Enfield. Frank is truly a
motorcycling pioneer, and his influence
over the years has been felt in many
design and mercbandising ideas which
bave belped the industry to grow.
During tbe past few years, Frank bas
been sketching. draIting, and discussing
new ideas with the Enfield factory in
England in an attempt to give the Ameri·
can motorcyclist as sporty and exciting
a bike as possible.
Enfield has always had a reputation
as a good. rot fairly conservative. road
bike. Despite its tremendous top end
and %. mile performance. it was very
often considered an "old man's" motorcycle. It just didn't have that certain
exciting style that some its sportier
