The Dana Point area bas been a favorite place for motorcyclists for some time oow. However, I understand that It Is now permanently closed with new fences being pUt UP and guards on constant patrol In jeeps. The loss of tbls area to motorcyclists Is going to be very keenly felt. Number two sideback driver is Jerry Person. also for the second year in a row. Jerry's passenger Gary Weber is in his second year as Dist. 37's number one passenger. Final tabulation of tbe American Federation of Motorcyclists 1966 standings placed Steele first in tbe nation in two cat~ gories - tbe 175cc production class and tbe open class in Grand Prix competition. In tbe 175cc class, Steele rode a Bridgestone sponsored by tbe Custom Muffler Sbop of Santa Rosa and in tbe Grand Prix open class, he rode a 650cc Triumpb sponsored by Daly City Cycle Center. Tom used NGK spark plugs exclusively in botb machines. Tbe photograpb sbows a few of the trophies Steele won during the 1966 season...the young lady, Miss Sharon Hall, likes men who win.
