Many 30uthern section riders faired well. others seemed surprised at the quality of local competition. several scramblers who can usually be counted upon to provide some close competition with the front runners were not in attendance by the time the finals rolled around. Mike Lane ~ came through with double wins as did U Mike Keen. Lane blasted Joe Krugh's Bridgestone Scrambler througb the pack to run away with the 90cc final and mounted Jack Griffith's Bridgestone to repeat in the 175 go. It looks as though the Kern County Bridgestone Dealers have the right combination with Mike in the saddle. Mike Keen used a brand new Sherpa for his transportation in the two hundred novice rounds and used bis trusty Matchless in the five hundred class. In the ninety-ec expert! amateur final some great racing took place bebiDd Lane for the amateur tropby. Jim Maxwell DOSed out Bob EIisanaras, Jim Nortbem, and teD-3>earoold -Tit.ric" TOIII Francisco for tile llIOlcL Pat Murphy was also a double winner with a first in the ninety novice hassle and a good ride on a beautiful little Ossa in the 175cc novice race. Randy Smi th had close competition from Joe Hamilton and Tracy Brigbt in the 200 ~Exp lBsb. but managed to hold them off at the finish. One of the largest field yet was on band to battle iii the 250 expert division. Eleven top notchers were riding eigbt different makes of machinery. National number 32 Sid Payne on a potent PuIsang emerged the winner over Ducat!mounted Don Stover and Joey Brown on a CZ. The amateur fifteea indIers provided some real actio..
