The race in the top ten. and concluded three hours later. following Sebring type rules. The leader at that time was the HODda 8-90 mounted team of Lloyd Brown and Ray Griffen. The duo was declared the winner the next time they crossed the finish line. The relay angle was a new and original idea in motorcycling developed at their Calico 125 relay race in November. The Hi Jinx is primarily a trail bike Hard luck award for the day went to Ray Carvajal, riding a Yamaha YoG. Ray took a beader over another rider on tbe first lap. and was unable to go any fartber, due to tbe fact tbat his macbine was all mangled up. Each lap was 3 miles long. over such terrain as sand washes. steep bills, and rocky down grades. An average lap time was 8 minutes. Placing second in competition was the brother team of Bud Matbis and Mike Mathis. followed by John Welhom and Jeff Paul, placing third. Lee COllPi and Gene Davenport took fifth and Bob Yelinch with Ned Larson ended up in fifth.. Frank Vallefuoco and RalPh Lubm scrambled their way to a sixth place finish. The date is Feb. 18th and 19th. These will be the first of five motorcycle races to be held at the Stardust this year. Advance publicity has stirred UP interest from any sources. Local radio. television and newspapers have already given the races good coverage and more is to come. The two day event should draw an excellent crowd and at least 309 competitors. Las Vegas has 17.654 registered cycle owners. who support motorcycle racing in good numbers. Promoter Reg Shel drick looks for a total attendance of 10,000 for the two days.
