This time it was sacramento's Butcb Corder doing tbe job on tbe locals. Butch chased Clyde Litcb for over ten laps before the pressure forced Litcb into a crash and out of the running. Corder's father Lin tunes bis Triumpb Cub and tbe Orangevale Ace is self-sponsored. Tbe best tbe soutb could muster was a fifth place finisb by Dan Haaby who also captured trophy dash bonors in tbe 250Cc class. And Dan's originally from sacramento! It was one-two-tbree for the nortb in tbe 15 lap 1S-incb final with Phil Cancilla moving uP from third a week ago to take a close second this time. Main event winner two weeks ago, Jim Odom, dropped down to third this time witb the surprising Carl Cranke again tbe only novice in tbe final. running uP for fourtb place! Action was again wilder than tbe week before witb tbe record for number of spills again being broken. Jam-ups, slides andcrasbes on again a newly designed course had tbe fans' eyes going in all directions during tbe 25 event show. There were again no 3erious accidents, but there were many close calls. Again more of the well known pro's obtained rides in tbe 100cc ultra-small bike class. This new division is fast _becoming a cba\- lenger to tbe 250cc class for close and spectator interest. vetemn Gene Romero rode in this class for the first time and won tbe main event aboard a 90cc Honda with Elliott SCbultz (Honda) a close second. Previous main event kingpin Ralph White dropped to third thi s time out and was tbe last man to qualify for the l00cc class feature. The ccmpetition is" getting fierce. The l00ce class, like the 250cc class, bad only one novice rider in the final. This was Rick Woods whe ran fifth for the secoqd straight week but upset all the -names· by winning the first trophy dash ever run fex the little bombs. One-time main event winner Mert Lawwill was shot down in the semimain in the 250 class and came uP to win the 10 lap consolation race which was another talent loaded event. Romero ran second with Ron Kruseman having his best night on the concrete and achieving third place. Haaby set new track records in both the heat and semi ove( the six lap distances on his BSA single, but was bun g up in traefic most of til e way in the final. The next and last Long Beach indoor race for a couple of weeks goes again this coming saturday night, Jan. 21st. There will also be an all afternoon practice for all riders, licensed. or noo-licensed. Race time saturda.Y niglt is set for 8 p.m. with no fog in sight. rac~ (Results on .. ee 16) Elbow to .llIow, ba to ba.
